Beyoncé's unexpected birthday guest was an outstanding choice.
The 42-year-old "Virgo's Groove" singer marked another year of life on Monday during the third night of her Renaissance World Tour at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
After delivering a mesmerizing performance on stage, Diana Ross made a surprise appearance to perform her classic hit, "Love Hangover," for Beyoncé.
Ross also rallied the star-studded audience to join in singing "Happy Birthday" to the 42-year-old. With tears in her eyes, Beyoncé embraced the legendary singer, saying, "I’m here to celebrate Beyoncé’s birthday."
"Thank you so much. You are incredible. This is the iconic Diana Ross," Beyoncé expressed her gratitude to Ross afterward.
In 2006, Beyoncé portrayed the fictional singer Deena Jones in the film "Dreamgirls," a role inspired by Diana Ross during her tenure with The Supremes.

The "Renaissance" singer went on to express her thanks to her family, saying, "I'm thankful for every tear shed, for every year that has passed. I'm thankful for my children. I'm thankful for my husband. I'm thankful for all that we've endured together. I'm grateful for my wonderful father, who is here with us tonight; I appreciate his sacrifices and his pain. I'm thankful for my mother, my extraordinary queen."
Beyoncé also took a moment to appreciate her Destiny's Child bandmates, the highly acclaimed Grammy-winning artist remarked, "I'm grateful for Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, LeToya Luckett, LaTavia Robertson. I'm thankful for all of you who have been by my side since 1997."
"I'm thankful that each of us has the ability to turn life's challenges into opportunities for growth," she added, referencing her 2016 album "Lemonade."
Concluding her heartfelt speech, Beyoncé acknowledged, "I'm thankful for every imperfection, every stretch mark, every moment of growth. I'm thankful to be standing here at 42. I'm appreciative of the gift of joy, and I thank God for it all. I thank you, God," Beyoncé concluded her remarks.
